History:

Fryson Drum Academy (FDA) was founded in 2013 by educator, recording, and touring drummer Steve Fryson, Jr.

Fryson Drum Academy is the only school that has a instructor with over 30yrs of experience.We offer practical methods on becoming the drummer of your dreams. We achieve this goal by customizing lessons to the student personal needs.

Steve Fryson, Jr is arguably best known for his playing in the pocket. His dedication to R&B, Funk, Jazz, and Gospel is felt by every ear and heart that is blessed to be in his audience. His music career has spanned over 3 decades and he is just getting started.

He began playing at the tender age of 4 at his hometown church in Daytona Beach, Florida. He further developed his drumming skills in junior and senior high school with the marching and jazz bands. During his time playing the drums in high school, he received the prestigious Louis Armstrong award. By then he knew that he would be playing the drums professionally for the rest of his life.

After high school Fryson, Jr joined the world renowned Florida A&M University’s Marching 100 band under the leadership of Dr. William P. Foster. During this time he traveled with the band to perform in the Bahamas and many different states in the U.S. Fryson graduated with his B.S. in Music at Florida A&M University summer of 2016.

Steve Fryson, Jr has been featured on the soundtrack for the Golden Globe and Oscar winning movie “12 Years a Slave,” Cody ChesnuTT’s albums “Landing on A Hundred “ and “Landing on A Hundred B-Sides and Remixes” featuring Grammy Award Winner Gary Clark Jr. He has also toured worldwide with Cody ChesnuTT. He has traveled to Japan, Australia, Switzerland, Spain, all around the U.S, and dozens more countries.

Fryson Jr has worked with schools in Florida and Georgia including Florida A&M University Tallahassee, Florida; Suncoast High School in Palm Beach County, Florida; Spruce Creek High School in Volusia County, Florida; Thomasville High School in Thomas, County, Georgia; and Rickards High School in Leon County, Florida. He is currently teaching young people drumming under his company Fryson Drum Academy.

LESSONS

Curriculum:

What you will learn during lessons?

We offer lessons from ages 4 through adult, from beginners to advanced. We will teach students technique, reading, four-way coordination, and develop different musical genres/styles. The student(s) will learn from a variety of materials which will include but not limited to books, audio recordings, and visual performances.

We are eager to share our talents and leadership skills with inspiring students looking to hone their skills in drums/percussion.

We offer private lessons: Ranging from 15mins-60mins

Group Lessons

Online Lessons are available through FaceTime, Zoom, and Skype

Tuition:

Tuition covers instructor fees and various activities for the semester.

SCHEDULE a LESSON

POLICIES

Billing

Families are billed one a month. Fees are to be paid at the first of the month. Payments can be paid electronically, checks, or cash.

Missed Lessons

The responsible party should inform the academy of lessons that might need to be rescheduled for the student with a 24-hour notice. At the academy convenience lessons will be re-scheduled. If the instructor has to cancel for any reason lessons will be made up. If a student comes in late to a lesson the instructor is not responsible for given the student there full lesson.(ex lesson starts at 6pm and the student comes at 6:15pm they have 15mins left in there lesson)

Recitals and Performances

Fryson Drum Academy will have at least one recital or community performance during the Fall and Spring Semesters.

Materials

Method books and sticks are included in the registration fees. The academy will assist in the recommendation of materials that the student will need at their home.
